In 2022, Purple Heart Forever stamps will be issued by the United States Postal Service to honor American troops who have won the Purple Heart medal for courage.
First issued in 2003 as a denominational stamp, this stamp was discontinued in 2012 when the first Purple Heart Forever Stamps were issued by the United States Postal Service.
In 2019, the United States Postal Service (USPS) added a purple border to the design of its stamps.

What is the use of the Forever Purple Heart stamp?
Purple Heart Forever was designed by the United States Postal Service to commemorate those who got the Purple Heart medal while serving in the United States of America.
George Washington created this medal during the Revolutionary War as a mark of honor for soldiers who had shown exceptional bravery and skill.
In 1932, on the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birth, the event was recreated.
In the modern era, the Medal of Honor is given to US military personnel who have been injured or killed in combat.
Veterans’ support group Military Order of the Purple Heart said the Purple Heart award is still in use today despite its age. The first award to be handed to “ordinary troops” was also a first for this honor.
As a tribute to those who risked their lives for their nation, the Purple Heart stamp is issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS).
How Do Forever Purple Heart Stamps Appear?
In 2019, the United States Postal Service announced the latest Purple Heart Forever Stamp design. A purple heart with a gold accent hangs from the stamp’s ribbon in this design.
On the medal, George Washington’s profile bust may be seen positioned beneath the coat of arms of his family.
To go along with the medal and ribbon colors, this stamp has a purple border around it.

Validity of Purple Heart Stamps
Purple Heart postal stamps, like other USPS stamps, never expire. It’s up to you whether or not to use your stamp if it’s still in excellent shape (i.e., no rips or tears).
As a side note, Purple Heart Forever stamps produced after 2012 will pay the cost of postage, no matter how much you paid for them or what the current rate is.
Due to their status as “Forever Stamps,” the value of these stamps will always be the same as the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.
For those who still have an older version of the Purple Heart stamp (one with a dollar value), you can still use it, but you’ll have to pay for the difference in postage.
How much do Purple Heart stamps cost?
The 2019 Forever Stamp variant of the Purple Heart stamp is expected to be the majority of those available now.
This was the first time that Purple Heart stamps became Forever stamps. There is a one-ounce First-Class Mail rate on these stamps since “Forever” is inscribed on them.
Many alternative Purple Heart monetary values are available in addition to the two variants of the Forever stamp that the USPS issued.
USPS’ first Purple Heart stamp, issued in 2003 and valued at $0.37, had a limited print run. U.S. Postal Service (USPS) published a Purple Heart stamp for $0.39 in 2006.
During the next two years, USPS utilized two different stamps with the same value: one with water-activated adhesive and one with self-adhesive adhesive. On January 1, 2009, USPS issued the last stamp with a value of $0.44.
The stamp’s value is listed on the back, so check to see whether yours has one. If you intend to mail something, you’ll need to add additional postage to match the current First-Class Mail rates.
