How Much Are Bifocal Lenses At Walmart

By David Krug 4 minute read

The grocery store, clothing store, restaurants, tire and oil service station, and even some locations with low-cost vision centers are all found in every Walmart Supercenter.

However, how much will it cost you to go to Walmart’s vision center? Hundreds or even thousands of dollars? It’s critical to be prepared.

This is the place for you if you’ve been curious about Walmart vision center prices. This page contains all the information you’re looking for.

Optical Center Prices at Walmart

Costs for routine eye exams at Walmart Vision Centers start at just $73, but you may pay more if you wear contacts or have astigmatism. Frames can be as low as $10 or as high as $200. Lenses can cost as little as free with the purchase of frames, up to $135 for the most expensive.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the costs of various vision tests, the prices of frames and lenses, and even whether or not Walmart accepts various types of insurance. You’ll find all the answers to your questions below!

What is the cost of a vision test at Walmart?

In order to order eyeglasses or contacts, you’ll need a prescription from a doctor. Walmart offers low-cost vision screenings.

At Walmart, you can get a basic checkup for just $73, whereas private practices can charge hundreds of dollars (though that base price can vary based on where you are located).

Target, according to the Krazy Koupon Lady, tends to cost $7 more, so Walmart is likely to be the cheaper option if you’re really pinching pennies.

If you wear contact lenses, you’ll have to pay more for a vision exam because of this.

According to the Krazy Koupon Lady, these are closer to $105 in price. Additionally, if you have astigmatism, the exam may cost an additional $20.

For exams that you must pay for out-of-pocket, however, this is the policy to follow.

As a result, if you’re fortunate enough to have vision insurance, your visits to the eye doctor will be significantly less expensive, if not free (especially if you have Medicaid).

Glasses at Walmart cost what?

When it comes to glasses, there are two parts: the frame and the lens.

They are made and sold separately, and the prices reflect this.

Frames costing less than $10 can be found at Walmart.

For less than $100, you can choose from more than 600 different frame styles.

The selection of designer frames at Walmart isn’t the most extensive, but you can find Marc Jacobs, Ray Ban, Miu Miu, and Vera Wang.

These are the frames that are most likely to cost more than $50, $100, and even $200.

Even so, this is a remarkable price for designer frames.

According to Clark, lenses may be free with the purchase of frames – regular clear lenses may be free.

However, different lens treatments, such as tints that improve night vision or reduce daytime glare, can add $20 (basic) or 115 (premium) to the price of the lenses (polarized).

The additional cost of $135 for Transition lenses applies.

How Much Do Progressive Lenses Cost at Walmart?

When it comes to progressive lenses, also known as “no-line” bifocals and “multifocal” lenses, there are no defining lines between the fields of vision.

It’s a fantastic piece of optical equipment, with a starting price of about $110 at Walmart for plastic material.

After that, you can expect to pay around $245. (for lenses made by big names like Zeiss, Seiko or Nikon).

High index polycarbonate lenses (unquestionably the most durable) start at $350 and are the most expensive option offered by Walmart.

Imagine how much a private practice eye doctor would charge you if you were to pay these prices out-of-pocket.

How Much Do Walmart’s Contacts Cost?

I know this from experience as a contact lens wearer: buying new lenses every couple of years can be prohibitively expensive, especially if you pay for them out of your own pocket.

If you need contacts and a prescription, you’ll have to pay a little extra up front for a vision exam that includes contacts.

If you already have a valid prescription, you can simply go to WalmartContacts.com and order your contacts there, if you prefer.

Walmart Contacts is a little less expensive than 1800 Contacts’ regular prices when compared to Walmart.

1800-Contacts.com sells Biofinity toric lenses for my right eye, which cost me $71. Contacts cost $63 at Walmart.

Regular Toric lenses at 1-800-Contacts cost $54 per box, whereas Walmart Contacts only costs $46 per box.

However, keep in mind that if you buy your contacts solely online, your vision insurance will not cover the cost.

Walmart Vision Centers have the capability of billing insurance companies to cover contact orders for customers who visit with an appointment already scheduled (at least partially, for most patients).

Walmart accepts what types of vision insurance plans?

Walmart provides quality vision care to everyone, regardless of insurance status, but if you do have coverage, the appointments can be very affordable.

Davis Vision, EyeMed, VSP, Spectra, and Cole Managed Vision are some of the vision insurances Walmart accepts.

Ask Walmart’s Vision Center what they accept if you don’t have any of the above.

Is Walmart Vision a Medicaid-Eligible Provider?

Only a small number of Walmart Vision Centers are covered by Medicaid.

To avoid being charged for an entire appointment when you weren’t expecting to, it’s always best to call ahead of time.

Bottom Line

Eye exams and vision products like glasses, contacts, and progressive lenses are all within reach for most people thanks to Walmart Vision.

Exams can be had for as little as $73, but if you wear contacts, expect to pay a little more.
