It can be difficult to keep track of all of the different shipping services that are out there today.

UPS, on the other hand, does it deliver directly to your door or to a different location? Here’s what I found out!

In 2022, does UPS leave packages at the door?

In 2022, UPS will deliver your package directly to you or to your doorstep. Delivery instructions or the fact that UPS can’t obtain a signature are among the reasons why UPS won’t leave your package on your doorstep, but it’s not always that simple.

Check out the rest of the article if you want to learn more about how to better predict where your UPS package will be dropped off or even how to request a specific drop-off location!

What happens to UPS packages after they’ve been delivered to my door by the delivery driver?

Unless otherwise instructed, UPS will not deliver packages to your mailbox, but rather to your front door or another specified location on your property.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is the only agency that can access mailboxes because they are federal property.

Aside from the occasional attempt to partially conceal a package in order to prevent it from being stolen, UPS frequently leaves packages on doorsteps.

For example, you may want to hide the package from view behind a pillar or potted plant in order to keep it out of the way of oncoming traffic.

Sometimes, you’ll find a UPS-branded package in your mailbox.

A hybrid shipping service, which brings together two shipping companies to offer the best of both worlds, is the only way to avoid this. Whoever shipped the package chose this option.

As part of UPS Mail Innovations, UPS handles the majority of the package’s transportation and care, while the USPS provides some of the delivery services.

The most time-consuming part of package delivery is the last mile, which UPS handles.

If your package is small enough to fit in a mailbox, it may arrive in your mailbox instead of on your doorstep thanks to USPS’s last-mile delivery service through UPS Mail Innovations.

The UPS page on UPS Mail Innovations can be accessed here if you’d like to learn more about this service.

In what way is UPS different from other delivery services?

There is nothing wrong with your UPS package if it hasn’t arrived at your front door yet. UPS may not leave your package at the door for any of the following reasons:

  1.  Instructions were left stating that the package should be left somewhere else.

Special delivery instructions can be left by both people who are shipping a package and those who are receiving a package through UPS.

Delivery instructions allow you to request that the package be left at the back gate, under the doormat, or in any other inconspicuous location to prevent package theft.

In most cases, if not all, cases, your courier will comply with your request as long as they can actually get there.

Take a look around or check your UPS My Choice account to see if there is a record of special delivery instructions for your package if you suspect it was placed elsewhere due to delivery instructions.

  1. If the courier is unable to obtain a signature from you, they will not leave the package at your doorstep.

Delivery Signature is one of the many services offered by UPS that can be added to any package delivery.

In order to protect expensive or valuable packages from theft or damage, this service is frequently employed.

If your package includes a signature requirement, your local UPS courier must attempt delivery with someone present to sign for the package.

It is illegal for your courier to leave your package at your door if there is no one available or if the person who is available does not meet the requirements.

An attempt at delivery will be made and a note will be left to notify the recipient.

Please follow the instructions on the note you received or visit UPS’s page here if you received a notice about a missed delivery attempt and suspect that this is why your package has not arrived at your door.

  1. There is a “blocked from release” label on your address.

According to UPS’s logs, it is not unusual for an address to be blocked from release.

When packages have been stolen at a specific address or an area has been deemed unsafe for unattended deliveries, this is the most common scenario.

You can call UPS customer service at 1-800-742-5877 if you believe your address is listed as “blocked from release.”

Visit the UPS customer service contact page to get in touch with a representative online.

Can the UPS driver leave my packages at my door if I tell them to?

UPS drivers may not deliver your package at the requested drop off site in some cases, such as if the package requires a signature, or your address is marked as blocked from release.

UPS drivers’ logs may mark your address or general location as “blocked from release” if your packages are routinely delivered elsewhere during delivery attempts or are being held by UPS.

Contact UPS customer service if you have any doubts about this.

It’s imperative that you request to be removed from the list if your address has been blocked from being released so that packages can be delivered and any other strategy recommended here can work.

A UPS My Choice account, which you can set up here, is another option if your address isn’t blocked from release but you still haven’t received any packages at your doorstep.

With a UPS My Choice account, customers can create a virtual signature that can be used instead of a physical one for many delivery signature services.

Using a virtual signature, you can avoid having to be home to accept delivery of your package, unless the package requires a delivery signature service, also known as a signature confirmation service.

Special delivery instructions can also be added or modified through your UPS My Choice account.

If you’d prefer that your package be delivered to a specific location, you can specify that in the delivery instructions box.

A warning about what to do if the package is deemed unsafe should be included as well.

What kind of delivery note might you put on the package?

“Can you please leave my package outside my front door?” Place the package between the potted plant and the pillar if you are concerned about its safety in that location. Thanks!”

Bottom Line

In most cases, UPS will deliver your package right to your door, but there are a few exceptions to this rule.

UPS does not deliver packages to mailboxes because only the United States Postal Service is permitted to do so.
