Low-income families can get assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a government initiative. Qualifying families can get a Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card and related EBT benefits.

You may be wondering if Sam’s Club accepts EBT payments because of the low pricing and big amounts of things they sell. Read below to find out more about Sam’s Club and their policies regarding EBT!

Does Sam’s Club take EBT in 2022?

So, does Sam’s Club accept EBT cards as payment? In all 600+ locations that Sam’s Club operates, EBT cards will be accepted as a means of payment for federally-approved grocery items and beverages beginning in 2022. Most food sold in Sam’s Club will be eligible for EBT payment, but not all food items.

Instacart and the Sam’s Club online grocery delivery orders (either for delivery or for Sam’s Club pickup) are not eligible for EBT payments at this time, so you can only use your EBT debit card for in-club purchases.

What can you buy with EBT at Sam’s Club?

By using SNAP benefits at Sam’s Club, you may stock up on your favorite healthy items that you love. Most people associate warehouse retailers with low-priced food in huge quantities.

This is because of the long-term savings they provide. Under federal criteria, many of Sam’s Club’s food goods are eligible for SNAP benefits. Sam’s Club offers a variety of food items that may be purchased with your SNAP funds, including:

  • Frozen, canned, and fresh fruits and vegetables

What products can’t you buy with EBT at Sam’s Club?

Despite the fact that Sam’s Club takes EBT cards as a form of payment, you should be aware that some items are off-limits.

Among the food items that EBT does not cover are meals that are hot at the time of purchase, prepared food, and any live animals.

This means you can not use your EBT card to pay for food from Sam’s Club’s food court. There are some exceptions to this rule. For more information, you can read our articles on whether or not KFC or Burger King accept EBT food stamps.

You may use your SNAP benefits to pay for fresh fish and other seafood, fruits, vegetables, and various other grocery products at Sam’s Club. All purchases of alcohol and tobacco items are prohibited by EBT.

There are no exceptions to this rule when it comes to vitamins, supplements or drugs. Observing the label is a simple way to tell if a product is classified as a supplement. SNAP cannot be used to purchase anything that has a “Supplement Facts” label on it.

You can not use EBT online at Sam’s Club, and so it can’t be used for Sam’s Club pickup orders. If you plan on using your EBT card as your payment method, you will have to use your EBT in stores themselves.

Finally, SNAP payments do not extend to any non-food items. Cleaning and hygiene items, pet food, beauty products, as well as paper and other household essentials are included in this category.

How do you use EBT at Sam’s Club?

A SNAP account must be set up in your home state prior to utilizing your EBT debit card at your local Sam’s Club.

After signing up for an account, you will receive a card with a PIN that you may use to purchase groceries.

Before shopping at Sam’s Club, it’s a good idea to know how much money you have left on your EBT card. As an example, the transaction will be terminated if you don’t have enough money for the purchase.

Let the Sam’s Club clerk know you’re using EBT after they’ve rung up all of your purchases so they can input the appropriate amount.

Your Sam’s Club cashier will inform you if any of your purchases are not covered by SNAP and you will be required to pay for them with an alternate payment method.

Sam’s Club, fortunately, offers a variety of payment methods for its customers. Your SNAP balance will be shown on the receipt you get from Sam’s Club.

Is Sam’s Club online EBT acceptable?

EBT is not accepted for online purchases at Sam’s Club or through the Instacart app. When Instacart started taking EBT, it only applied to a small number of food retailers and a small portion of the United States.

You can utilize Instacart or Sam’s Club’s online gateway to purchase any products that SNAP benefits do not cover. Using the Sam’s Club app, you can order your groceries and have them delivered to your door within minutes.

Does Sam’s Club accept WIC?

Unfortunately, Sam’s Club is not an authorized WIC retailer, and so can not participate in the WIC program. WIC, like SNAP, helps low-income families buy food. WIC, on the other hand, is far more picky about what things qualify.

Whole-grain products and infant formula are all included in the WIC food program’s standard menu. It is the mission of WIC to provide nutritious food for mothers and their children.

Walmart, the parent business of Sam’s Club, will accept WIC cards as a payment method. Walmart is a wonderful spot to use WIC benefits because of its inexpensive costs.

Bottom Line

There is an EBT option at Sam’s Club. You can only use EBT at Sam’s Club in-stores and not on the Sam’s Club website.

Customers that use EBT at Sam’s Club may buy in bulk and stock up for future use, as long as the items they are buying are eligible for EBT.
