If the value of your insurance policy exceeds $500, you must notify your recipient that they must be present to receive the mail.

This is due to the fact that only mail valued at more than $500 will require a signature upon delivery.

How Much Does Postal Service First-Class Package Coverage Cost?

Depending on the value of what you’re sending, USPS insurance costs between $2.45 and $10.35+.

The limit is $5,000 for each item that you value yourself (and no, you cannot purchase insurance online and then also in-person for the same mailpiece).

The pricing is based on the following values:

  • $2.45 is the result of adding $0.01 and $50.
  • How much is $3.15?
  • $2.45 = $0.01 to 50.00
  • $50.01 to $100.00 = $3.15
  • Three hundred and eighty-five cents
  • $5.05 is the difference between $200.01 and 300.00.
  • Six dollars and forty cents
  • a difference of $7.65 between $400.00 and $500,000.00
  • $10.05 to $600.00 = $0.035.
  • To get from $600.01 to $5,000.00, multiply the declared value by 10.35 cents plus 1.55 cents per $100.00.

It costs $5.85 to purchase additional insurance for packages that have been shipped via Restricted Delivery and are worth more than $500.

Is insurance provided for all packages sent via USPS?

In most cases, USPS packages are not automatically insured.

First-class, marketing mail, retail ground, media mail, library mail, Parcel Select Lightweight and Bound Printed Matter are all included in this.

If you’re using a mailing service, you’ll have to pay for insurance separately.

Is Insurance Included by USPS?
