Having to travel to the bank every time you need a check cashed can be time-consuming and expensive if you don’t live near one. Since Dollar General locations can be found all across the country and provide a wide range of useful services, you might question if Dollar General also cashes checks. What I’ve discovered is as follows!
In 2022, will Dollar General accept checks?
As of 2022, Dollar General does not accept checks of any kind. Checks can be cashed by customers in supermarkets such as Kroger, Walmart, and Safeway if they present a valid picture ID.
Business and personal checks are accepted at Dollar General. Learn about more retail businesses that accept checks, what happens if you give your bank a voided check, and much more by reading this article further down.
Where Can You Cash Checks?
Walmart is a handy spot to cash a wide range of checks, including payroll, government, tax, and 401(k) retirement distribution checks.
There’s also Transact by 7-Eleven, a check-cashing app that puts monies onto a pre-loaded card within 48 hours. You may take a picture of the check and then submit it to the app.
A valid government-issued picture ID such as a driver’s license or state identification card is all that is required to cash your checks at the following locations:
- The issuing bank/your banking provider
- Gas stations including Chevron, Citgo, Dillons, and GetGo
Almost everywhere on this list requires you to go through an authorization process in order to cash your check. It varies from retailer to retailer, but most use fraud protection technology built in to the cash registers as part of their system.
Accepts Checks As Payment At Dollar General?
Personal and business checks are accepted at Dollar General locations. Customers purchasing with a check, on the other hand, must present a government-issued photo ID for identification purposes.
Dollar General employs Certegy, an electronic third-party verification system, to authenticate the check before confirming payment.
How Do You Pay At Dollar General With A Check?
In-store checks are only accepted in Dollar General locations and not online. To pay with a check, inform the cashier and write the exact amount on a business or personal check. The cashier will next use Certegy and your valid picture ID to validate the payment.
To complete the purchase, the cashier will enter some information into Dollar General’s system and then ask you to sign on a pin pad. Since the financial transaction is completed electronically, the cashier will then return the printed copy of the check to you.
What Happens If You Pay At Dollar General With A Void Check?
Certegy will reject the bill if you try to pay for products using a void check to prevent the money from bouncing. Checks are frequently refused because of errors in writing or signs, but anybody attempting to use a void check for any other purpose may be asked to leave the business.
If you’re paying with a check, be sure to have another form of payment on hand in case the check bounces. You may also want to contact Certegy or your issuing provider to find out why your check was rejected and prevent it from happening again.

Personal and company checks can be used for payment at any Dollar General store location, even though the chain does not accept cash. You must use a government-issued picture ID and Certegy to approve your check.
Alternatively, you may use the Transact by 7-Eleven app or the issuing provider, such as Walmart, Kroger, Safeway, or Publix, to cash your checks.
