Does Amazon Have Discreet Shipping

By David Krug 5 minute read

Everything from cleaning supplies for the house to new clothes and accessories can be purchased on Amazon with ease.

For those times when you just want to keep your purchases private while shopping online, you may wonder what Amazon’s discreet shipping is all about. So I did some research of my own, and here’s what I found out!

In 2022, what will Amazon Discreet Shipping entail?

As of 2022, Amazon will ship products in plain brown boxes or padded mailers that don’t reveal what’s inside, as part of the company’s standard shipping policies to protect customers’ privacy and personal information. Gift wrap options hide prices from customers on packing slips, but some customers complain that Amazon’s discreet shipping is hit or miss depending on the item.

How is Amazon’s Discreet Shipping service implemented?

As a result of Amazon’s efforts to send as many products as possible in plain unmarked packaging, the term “discreet shipping” has become synonymous with the company’s dedication to protecting customers’ personal information.

It is, however, difficult for Amazon to manage all packages, as many items are shipped directly by the seller, not Amazon, with more than 12 million items for sale.

When it comes to delivering items in plain packaging, Amazon and its Marketplace sellers may try, but sometimes it’s not possible.

It’s common to expect a brown box with a simple address label for most small items that can fit into an ordinary shipping box.

However, keep in mind that Amazon discreet shipping may not be available if you order something large, such as furniture or a bike, to be delivered.

If you order a toaster or other small or medium-sized item that does not come in its own box, Amazon will ship it in a discrete Amazon box for your safety and privacy.

The standard discreet shipping option on Amazon doesn’t require you to do anything extra.

There are, however, a few things you can do to ensure that a package’s privacy is protected.

As an example, you can check the reviews of other customers who purchased the same item to see if the delivery was discreet or obvious.

If you’re buying it as a gift for someone else, Amazon will remove the price and description from the packaging if you choose the gift option.

Are Amazon’s Gifts Discreet?

In order to ensure discreet delivery, use the Amazon gift wrap option, which is available for most items fulfilled by Amazon and for many third-party products.

As a result, if your product comes with the option to gift wrap it, you’ll be able to select “this item is a gift.”

If you’d like, you can also include a gift message and a gift bag to let the recipient know who’s sending the present.

Additionally, you have the option of sending the recipient an email with a copy of the gift receipt after the gift delivery has been confirmed.

If you want to keep the price hidden from the recipient, you can choose this discreet delivery option and add gift wrapping if you want it to be a surprise.

Even so, if your item is too large or oddly shaped to be packaged, you may be able to use the “ship in Amazon box” option.

However, this option is displayed on the checkout page and ensures that the contents are not visible to customers.

What Is the Truth About Amazon Shipping?

Customers have mixed feelings about Amazon’s discrete shipping. Some are happy with it, while others are not.

Whether Amazon or a third-party seller fulfills the order is all that is left to be seen.

Expect Amazon-fulfillment products to be more discrete and arrive in a generic Amazon package.

Third-party sellers, on the other hand, may not always use the same packaging materials or shipping policies, so this is something to keep in mind when ordering items.

Customers have expressed dissatisfaction with Amazon’s apparent packaging on some items, despite the company’s best efforts to keep shipments discreet.

Is Amazon Key Discreet or is it not?

In order to receive Amazon Prime deliveries in a more discreet and private manner, you can use Amazon Key, also known as Key by Amazon.

A Prime member’s advantage is that they can arrange for deliveries to be dropped off inside their home, giving them more privacy and security.

Amazon Key is also a great way to reduce package theft and track your deliveries.

As a result, it utilizes two-factor authentication with push notifications sent by an app.

Upon arrival, the Amazon driver will verify the package and delivery address you specified during checkout if you selected in-home, in-car, or in-garage delivery.

A Key-compatible lock communicates with the Amazon cloud to open the door, allowing the driver to drop off the package before closing the vehicle.

To ensure that only you and anyone in your home or garage can see your package, the delivery driver must wait for your door to be closed and locked before moving on to the next delivery.

Since packages are not left on your doorstep, Amazon Key is considered one of the most discreet delivery options.

Bottom Line

Discreet shipping is most commonly used for Amazon-fulfilled products.

A standard Amazon box or mailer with minimal information on the label makes it difficult to tell exactly what you’ll get.

A few customers have complained that items purchased from Amazon or Marketplace third-party sellers were not delivered in the manner customers expected.

In the end, it all comes down to the item and how difficult it is to package because of its size or shape.

So, if you want to ensure that your Amazon package arrives in a discreet manner, choose the “gift packaging” or “ship in Amazon box” option.
