Walmart Gift Cards make excellent gifts for friends and family due to the huge variety of products sold by Walmart. However, some individuals do not buy at Walmart and might not feel compelled to return the gift card.

This may prompt you to inquire: can Walmart gift cards be returned? Everything I’ve learned through calling Walmart customer support is included below!

In 2022, will Walmart accept returned gift cards?

According to Walmart’s stated return policy, you cannot return Walmart or third-party gift cards to Walmart. If your gift card has a low amount, you may be able to request a partial cash return in California or Colorado.

For more information on the states that enable you to obtain partial refunds and how to return Walmart third-party gift cards, keep reading!

Can You Cash In A Walmart Gift Card With A Low Balance?

Walmart’s stated policy indicates that gift cards cannot be returned in any of its shops, however certain states mandate retailers to repay customers in cash if the amount is extremely low.

As a result, if you reside in one of the following states, you can visit a Walmart store and ask for cash for the remaining balance on your gift card. The following is a list of each state:

  • California
  • Montana
  • Rhode Island
  • Texas
  • Massachusetts
  • Vermont
  • Washington
  • Puerto Rico
  • Colorado
  • Maine
  • New Jersey
  • Oregon

To find out if Walmart will give you cashback if your purchase falls below a certain threshold, you should speak with a customer service representative at your local Walmart to learn more. In order to acquire the phone numbers of local Walmart shops, you may use the store finder.

Are Third-Party Gift Cards Acceptable for Return at Walmart?

Third-party gift cards cannot be returned to any Walmart store for any reason. In some cases, it may be possible to return the gift card directly to the business.

If you purchased a gift card from Walmart for Apple or Starbucks, for example, you may be able to return the gift card to Apple or Starbucks directly. Ask the company whether they would accept a gift card return directly and inquire about their policy on returning gift cards.

Walmart Will Purchase Non-Walmart Gift Cards

A third-party card (e.g. Starbucks, eBay, Kroger, etc.) can be returned to Walmart and exchanged for a Walmart gift card, but you can’t return Walmart gift cards.

Bottom Line

Walmart’s stated return policy excludes gift cards. When the amount on a customer’s Walmart gift card is extremely low, the corporation is legally obligated by law in Oregon and California to repay customers in cash. It’s possible to return a third-party gift card by calling the business where you would use the gift card.
