How To Use Delta Companion Pass? Interested in finding out how to fly your vacation companion with you for less than $75 to any location in the United States? You may save a lot of money if you know how to use the Delta Companion Certificate.
My all-time favorite airline and credit card bonus is companion certificates. Companion certificates allow you to invite a friend or family member along for the vacation at a significantly reduced cost. Because only Delta credit cardholders are eligible for a Delta Companion Certificate. As part of this guide, we’ll explain exactly what it takes to get a Delta companion certificate and how to use it for maximum savings.
About Delta Companion Certificate
With the Delta Companion Certificate, you may fly with one of your friends or family members without having to pay a large charge. Your travel partner simply has to pay $75 in taxes and fees to fly roundtrip with you. Flights may cost hundreds of dollars, so you can save a significant amount of money by using the companion voucher.
When you renew your Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card or your Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card each year, you’ll receive a companion certificate. This is a benefit that is only available when you renew your card, not when you first get the card. Each year when you renew your American Express Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business or Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card, there is an additional advantage for you, you will get a companion certificate.
From the day the certificate was issued, companion certificates are valid for a year. By the certificate’s expiration date, the flight must be scheduled and performed. You and your travel companion must be on the same aircraft and in the same seat category in order to qualify for a companion ticket. The Delta Medallion elite rank or the use of an upgrade certificate may result in an upgrade. Companion tickets cannot be upgraded with Delta SkyMiles.
How can you have a Delta Companion Certificate?
The Delta Companion Certificate does not need you to earn it, unlike the Southwest Companion Pass. Having the correct credit card and paying the annual fee is all that is required to acquire a certificate each year. When your yearly fee is due, you will receive a companion certificate.
What are the best Delta airline credit cards to acquire the certificate? The Delta Companion Certificate is available only to cardholders of the Platinum or Reserve Delta credit cards. In spite of the fact that the Delta SkyMiles Gold Credit Card is an excellent credit card, it does not include a companion certificate.
As an added bonus, you’ll get a complimentary Delta Companion Certificate for every one of your qualifying Delta credit cards. A companion certificate can be earned for each card you own, such as if you have both the Delta SkyMiles Platinum and Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Credit Cards.
Companion Certificates issued by Delta are determined by the sort of Delta credit cardholder you are. In comparison to Reserve cardholders, Platinum cardholders receive a companion certificate with a much lower value:
- Companion certificates for Main Cabin tickets are given to Platinum cardholders.
- Reserve cardholders can use their companion certificate to reserve seats in the main cabin, Delta Comfort+, or First Class.
For example, if your certificate states that you are eligible for Basic Economy, you cannot purchase a ticket in any other class.
In order to help you choose the best credit card for your spending and travel needs, we’ll go over a few more details regarding these cards.
Delta SkyMiles Platinum Credit Card
A popular credit card among Delta SkyMiles members looking to improve or keep their elite status is the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Credit Card. This credit card comes with a generous sign-up bonus: After spending $2,000 in the first three months, you’ll get 50,000 extra miles and 5,000 MQMs (plus up to $100 in statement credits for eligible purchases at U.S. restaurants).
Delta and hotel transactions will earn you 3X points per dollar spent; 2X miles per dollar spent at restaurants and U.S. supermarkets; and 1X miles per dollar spent on all other qualified purchases when you use this card to make purchases.
The free first bag on Delta flights and priority boarding in Main Cabin 1 is also included in the Platinum card’s benefits. These bonuses are available if you include your SkyMiles number in your reservation. You’ll save 20% on qualifying in-flight purchases and get a special per-visit discount while visiting a Delta SkyClub airport lounge because there are no foreign transaction costs. The current annual cost is $250.
Also available is a Platinum Card for businesses. With the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business American Express Card, business owners may earn Delta SkyMiles on their company’s spending, which is nearly equivalent to the personal version of the card.
Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card
The Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card is one of the finest travel credit cards for regular Delta flyers who desire access to airport lounges. While traveling Delta or a SkyTeam partner airline, the cardholder is entitled to complimentary entry to the Delta Sky Club airport lounge. For a modest price, cardholders can invite two friends into the lounge. There is no fee for children under the age of two.
The Reserve credit card’s annual fee is $550. (See rates and fees). Individual Delta Sky Club memberships, on the other hand, cost $545 per year. After spending $3,000 in the first three months, Reserve cardholders receive a welcome bonus of 50,000 bonus miles (and 10,000 MQMs). On purchases made directly with Delta, you’ll earn 3X miles for every dollar spent, while on all other qualified transactions, you’ll earn 1X miles.
Cardholders may earn an additional 15,000 MQMs for every $30,000 they spend on the Reserve card in a calendar year, up to a total of 60,000 MQMs every year. Cardholders who spend $30,000 will earn 15,000 bonus SkyMiles, up to a maximum of $30,000 in bonus SkyMiles, through January 29, 2020.
The Delta SkyMiles Reserve Corporate American Express Card is a variant of the Reserve card that may be used for both personal and business purposes. You’ll get 1.5x miles on every transaction if you’ve spent $150,000 in a calendar year with this card from January 30, 2020, onward.
How to use your Delta Companion Certificate
If you already have your 8-character certificate code from the letter or email you received, you may book flights online using the Delta Companion Certificate.
How to find your certificate in your Delta dashboard
Once a year, your certificate will appear on your SkyMiles profile. Here’s how to find your certificate of completion.
- Enter your SkyMiles credentials in the top right corner of Delta’s website (delta.com).
- In the top right corner, click on your name, and then select “My Delta” from the drop-down option.
- In the My Wallet menu, select “Credits and Certificates.”
From there, you can view the companion certificates that are currently available for purchase. Select a certificate from the list and click “Continue” to proceed. Search for flights and arrange a trip with your buddy the same way you would normally. Delta will immediately remove any flights that aren’t eligible during this stage.
The companion ticket’s taxes and fees are set at $75, but there are no restrictions on the price of the ticket you may purchase with your companion coupon. You can save more money by booking a higher-priced airfare for the principal passenger, so keep that in mind.
However, there are certain restrictions when using your companion voucher to make a reservation.
- Please make sure your ticket is classed L or higher.
- Not all flights or markets are eligible for the companion certificate.
- Delta may request up to 14 days’ notice for reservations.
- It’s possible that a minimum of three nights’ accommodation may be required.
- Flights may only be booked for a maximum of 30 days at a time.
For domestic round-trip flights inside the United States, the companion ticket will be subject to government taxes and levies of no more than $75. Your Delta credit card must be used for both the primary ticket and the Delta Companion Certificate flight when buying your Delta Companion Certificate ticket. Delta SkyMiles cannot be used to purchase the main ticket.
If you don’t know this, you might lose your certification.
When it comes to booking a companion ticket, you have a lot of freedom, but it’s possible to forfeit a credit card benefit. If the primary ticket or the companion ticket is canceled, the Delta Companion Certificate will not be reissued and both tickets will be canceled. If you order tickets for a trip you don’t intend to take, you risk losing the companion voucher.
Even if your primary ticket is canceled, you won’t lose the whole cost of your flight as a result of this. You can use the money you purchased for the primary ticket for future travel by paying a $200 administrative charge to Delta. Changing your flight after it has been ticketed is possible if you discover you won’t be able to make it as originally planned, but you must pay a charge of $200 per principal passenger and companion ticket in addition to the price difference for the new tickets.
