When it comes to making purchases, using the Citi Simplicity® Card is as easy as the name suggests. One of the longest introductory 0% APR balance transfer incentives in the industry is offered by this straightforward credit card.

In addition, cardholders who occasionally make mistakes will like Citi Simplicity’s lack of penalty fees and interest charges, despite the card’s not-unusually-low APR once the introductory period ends.

Citi Simplicity is online with other no-frills cards that provide competitive rates and terms, as well as low-interest, no-annual-fee cash-back credit cards. However, it is not suitable for customers who are looking for dynamic returns on their investments because there is no rewards program.

Key Characteristics

The Citi Simplicity card stands out from the crowd because of its affordable fees and lengthy introductory 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers.

Introductory APR

Beginning on the date of your initial balance transfer, you’ll be eligible for Citi Simplicity’s promotional APR-free period of 21 months. Transfers of a qualifying balance must be made within 4 months of the account’s creation.

In addition, for the first 12 months after opening your Citi Simplicity account, you’ll pay no interest on purchases.

After the introductory period ends, the standard purchase and balance transfer APR, which varies from the current 17.74% to the current 27.74% based on your creditworthiness, will apply.

Significant Fees

No matter how many times you pay late, you will never be charged more. The flat rate for the foreign transaction fee is 3%. The fee for a balance transfer is greater than $5 or 5% of the amount transferred, while the fee for a cash advance is $10 or 5% of the advance amount.

Credit Required

Your credit must be exceptional to be approved for this card. You may not be accepted if you have a history of significant credit problems.

Pros

In addition to not charging an annual fee, the Citi Simplicity card also offers a promotional introductory APR that makes it a good choice for both new purchases and balance transfers.

  1. There is no yearly cost. Those who are attracted to the Citi Simplicity Card because of its extremely lengthy introductory campaign won’t have to worry about being penalized by an annual charge.
  2. 0% Intro APR on Balance Transfers for an Extremely Prolonged Time Period. If you’re looking to transfer a balance, Citi Simplicity offers one of the longest introductory periods with zero percent interest. Therefore, it is difficult to find a better option for individuals looking to move high-interest amounts and reduce their debt more quickly. When the introductory period for a balance transfer expires, the variable APR that applies to your account will kick in.
  3. Extensive Buy Now, Pay Later Promotion at 0% Intro APR. The Citi Simplicity 12-month 0% APR purchase promotion begins on the account opening date. That could be enough time to avoid paying interest by paying off significant purchases in full. As soon as the introductory period ends, the purchase APR that would normally apply to you is the one that is determined by your credit score.
  4. There will be no increased interest rate for being late, and there will be no late fees either. Late payment penalties and interest are never assessed with Citi Simplicity. For cardholders prone to periodic payment lapses, this is a major perk.

Cons

Prior to applying, you should be aware of the cons of Citi Simplicity.

  1. There is no Joining Bonus available. The lack of a sign-up incentive is a major downside compared to similar cards that offer enticing introductory APR promotions.
  2. There will be no compensation. Citi Simplicity does not offer any sort of loyalty program. A low introductory APR rate may not be a deal breaker if it is your major motivation. However, American Express Blue Cash every day is a better option if you care about both rewards and introductory APRs.
  3. Includes a charge for transactions made in a foreign currency. The card has a 3% international transaction fee, which can mount up quickly if you travel frequently outside the U.S. Capital One Quicksilver is one option because it doesn’t charge any fees for transactions made in a foreign currency.
  4. Demands for acceptance into the insurance plan are fairly stringent. To qualify for Citi Simplicity, you’ll need decent credit or better. It is also likely that your credit won’t be good enough to qualify for Simplicity if you are carrying a high-interest amount on an existing credit card account.

Bottom Line

Good credit history is required to be approved for the Citi Simplicity® Card. However, those who are approved for this card will have the unique option to consolidate high-interest credit card debt into a single monthly payment with no interest charged for 21 months.

If you’ve gone through the trouble of learning about Citi Simplicity and filling out an application, you probably have a good idea of how you’ll put it to use.
